69 President of this Bank and whereas, he has filled every position in the Bank from teller to Vice President and has been an active official for a longer period than any one now identified with the Bank – thirty- two years – and whereas during that long period his fidelity has never been questioned and he has given the Bank the full measure of his ability and our Board of Directors desiring to incorporate in its minutes some fitting testimonial to his worth; Now therefore be it resolved that our Bank recognizes and is glad to record its indebtedness to Mr. Glover for his long and faithful service, for his uniform courtesy and for his willingness at all times to devote his best efforts to the advancement of the Bank’s business. Mr. Glover and the Board have been extremely pleasant and agreeable and he retires from the Bank with the cordial good wishes of his official associates and the whole Board. A newspaper ad that ran in 1935 stated that 42 Virginia cities and towns had trust services - Berryville was one of them. The Board meeting on July 4, 1935 revealed additional details on the merger: “The union of Boyce State Bank and Bank of Clarke County has been completed and business is being transacted at both banks. Work is couriered from Boyce to Berryville each afternoon for entrance upon the books.” On July 11, 1935, a special stockholders’ meeting was held at 9 A.M. to amend the charter to increase the number of Board members from seven to ten, the additional three to come from the Boyce and Millwood areas of the county. 1,135 shares out of 2,000 were represented, which fell short of the two-thirds required. The meeting was adjourned until 2:30 P.M. to allow time for the officers and directors to encourage additional local stockholders to attend. The motion passed that afternoon when the meeting reconvened. On July 18, 1935, Miss Mary Webb of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia was hired as Assistant Bookkeeper for $20 per week on a temporary basis from a bank in Harpers Ferry. Her experience was needed to operate the posting and bookkeeping machines. Young Mr. William Barnett was hired as well to give “some clerical help.” Mr. Cornelius VanDeventer was appointed Manager of the Boyce Branch at a salary of $125 per month. Mrs. Lelia VanDeventer, his wife, continued as his assistant at $10 per month. On August 1, 1935, Mr. H. B. Whiting resigned as Director. Mr. Morrison was appointed Trust Officer and Mr. Glascock Assistant Trust Officer. Mr. A. Garland Williams penned an appropriate commendation for Mr. Whiting: Whereas Mr. H. B.
